HAPPY NEW YEAR!! As we begin this 2008 year, we pray for God’s direction, His protection and His blessings… not only for the work here in Belize but also for all of you… wherever God has placed you.
We returned to Belize on January 8th after 3 weeks in the States with family and friends. The first team of 2008 arrived on the 10th and we immediately started classes at the High School again so the year has gotten off to a busy start. We are now preparing for the arrival of our teams from Alabama and a group from Fayetteville, GA that will work further south with the Baptist Church in Punta Gordo. |

|
A group from First Baptist of Brinkley, Arkansas worked with the San Roman church to build a Sunday School room and a bathroom. This group has been working in Belize for many years and has a long standing relationship with San Roman. We really enjoy the group from Arkansas… this team was the first one that we hosted at the camp after we moved to Belize. |

I asked the Arkansas group to help me surprise Johnny with a cake on his 52nd b’day. The ladies baked the cake and decorated the dining hall with balloons and then the whole group sang “happy b’day”. Since they know what a big Alabama football fan John is… they had to finish up with their traditional “hog call” for the Arkansas Razorbacks. I assured Johnny that I did not ask them to do that. Sorry, but I don’t have photos of the group calling the hogs… but it was a sight to behold. Hey… we love ‘em anyway! |

On January 16th, we had our Regional Association meeting. It was held in Pomona. Although the attendance was low, we were able to share the 2008 plans for the development of the Rodney M. Gordon Christian Development Center. We hope that more of the churches are able to get involved in the construction and planning of this project. There were some great ideas presented regarding ministry to the Youth of the Southern Region also. We need to continue to be in prayer for our Chairman, Wayne Lopez as he leads the Southern Region Baptist Association. |

|
You may recall that we had requested prayer regarding the need for transportation for Chairman, Wayne Lopez. Well, Praise God…. Prayers were answered!! Pastor Wayne and Carla now have a nice Chrysler 7 passenger van… just the right size for their large family. Wayne shared with us that a man approached him while he was at Bible School and told him that God had instructed him to give his van to Wayne. Evidently, the man had seen the prayer request and felt led to give this van to the family. Since this van was already in the country… there was no cost to Wayne. God is sooooo good!! |

Continue to pray about the need to provide bag phones for many of our Pastors and churches in the South. Also, many Pastors could benefit from laptops… we have had a couple of them donated and a couple more on the way… so Praise God for that. John and I would also like to have a laptop for the ministries that we are involved with…. We are currently using one that was donated but plan to pass it on to one of the Pastors. Also, we still have Pastors that need better transportation. |
