We waited with anticipation for the month of February 2008 because this was the month that construction would begin on the Rodney M. Gordon Christian Development Center. Although there were times when it seemed that nothing was going as “we” planned…. As always, God showed up and carried His plan forth. The month began with a Groundbreaking Ceremony where Pastors and members from many of the Southern Region Baptist churches joined together with the first construction team to break ground for this facility. God is so good and we give Him all the glory for everything that is being accomplished here in Southern Belize. Please go to the Photo Gallery to view more photos or you can view photos from the past two years at Archive Photos Also notice at the top of page that we have new cell phone numbers.

Diana Gordon, along with Chairman, Wayne Lopez and the construction team from Alabama break ground for the first building. The local churches turned out in support.

In order for John to be able to remain with the team, I covered his classes and mine at the HS. This is what my classes looked like for two weeks. I joined the 4th Formers with my 2nd Formers. The 4th Form students presented their Christian Ethics research papers to my classes. They covered topics such as: “Sex in the Media”, “Violence in the Media”, “Teen Pregnancy”, “Genetic Engineering”, “Stem Cell Research”, etc. It was interesting… to say the least… but I don’t think I will try it again!

This trailer was donated by Fayetteville First Baptist Church out of Georgia. When it arrived, it was loaded with a variety of tools. FFBC also provided the funds to cover the cost of shipping and the Duty to get it through Customs. It has already been a huge blessing to our construction teams.

Work begins on the first dorm building and the dining and kitchen.

For a job this big… they brought out the heavy equipment.

There was a lot accomplished during these first two weeks of construction. Our  thanks goes out to the Alabama groups from Riverside Baptist, Southside Baptist and Shelby Crossings.

After long days on the construction site… the team also ministered in Silk Grass and helped to begin a new ministry in the Village of Hopkins. A local couple, Frank and Jennifer Valario will continue the ministry in Hopkins with a backyard Bible Study two days a week. Please pray for this ministry and for this couple as they follow God’s direction.

In a previous newsletter, we made a request for laptops for some of our Pastors who are attending Seminary…. And as always, God’s people responded. Tommy & Brenda Vines from Alabama and Eric & Julie Maas of North Carolina both donated laptops. We have been able to present four of our Pastors with these laptops so far. Pictured above are Pastor Pop and wife, Veronica from Punta Gorda and Pastor Pop from Silver Creek. We also presented laptops to Pastor Alfred Ramsey from Mt. Zion and Harold Arthurs from Silk Grass. We have two other laptops to be given to Pastor Wayne Lopez and to Diana Gordon. We pray that these computers will be a blessing to these Pastors as they continue their Bible studies at the Baptist Seminary.

Fayetteville First Baptist Church has a group of 57 working in Punta Gorda. They are working along side Pastor Kell and Veronica at PG Baptist Church. They are building benches for the church and a Sunday school room. They have also been ministering to the locals through a Bicycle repair workshop. The ladies in the group are also conducting a Women’s Conference with the women at the Baptist Church. This group has been a blessing to PG Baptist Church and we pray that this will be a long lasting relationship.

Our friends, Jim and Anna from Calvary Chapel brought their dance team to Silk Grass. They put on a wonderful concert… performed dances and even had puppets and clowns for the children to enjoy. We appreciate them sharing their unique ministry with us in Silk Grass.
